Ice cave elopement in Iceland | Klaudia &Szymon

Klaudia and Szymon wanted their elopement ceremony to be special and unique. They desired an isolated location, far from tourist crowds, where they could have ice caves and glaciers all to themselves. Iceland, known for its beautiful ice caves during wintertime, seemed like the perfect place for their elopement. However, they wanted something more than the usual tourist spots, which meant extra driving, time with a super jeep, and some hiking. But they were up for it if it meant having an area all to themselves. In the end, they chose the Vatnajökull area for their elopement location, and it turned out to be a perfect choice.

Vatnajökull is the largest glacier in Iceland and one of the largest in Europe, covering about 8% of Iceland's landmass. The area has some of the most beautiful ice caves and glaciers in the world, making it a popular tourist destination. However, the further you go from the main road, the fewer tourists you'll find, and the more isolated the location becomes. This is what Klaudia and Szymon were looking for.

The day of their elopement was cold, but the scenery was breathtaking. They drove for hours and hours to reach the pickup place at Jökursarlon where they met their guide Stephan with his super jeep. Stephan suggested three different options to the couple and they ended to choose the frozen lagoon as their elopement location. The journey was worth it as they had the whole area to themselves, and the ice caves were stunning.

Accessing the frozen lagoon was a once-in-a-lifetime experience since the lagoon doesn’t freeze over every winter and it doesn’t freeze so well that it would be safe to walk on it to the ice caves and glaciers. The glaciers do change a lot and the ice caves too and there is no guarantee any of these would exist in a couple of weeks’ time, so it really was a once-in-a-lifetime experience for Klaudia & Szymon!

Getting married in an ice cave is not only a unique and stunning experience, but it is also an adventure. To reach the ice cave, you need to hike or snowmobile through the glacier. This adventure adds an element of excitement to your wedding day and creates unforgettable memories. Many couples choose to combine their wedding with a honeymoon in Iceland, and getting married in an ice cave is the perfect way to start your adventure together.
