Hi, I'm Lisa.
I live in a small village in South Iceland, where black sand beaches meet glacier-carved mountains, the wind has a personality of its own, and the weather occasionally laughs at even the best-laid plans.
This isn't just where I work.
It's home.
I didn't move to Iceland because it was convenient. I moved here because of the way it made me feel.
The feeling of standing somewhere so vast that everything else suddenly became quieter. The feeling of realising that the best moments rarely happen because everything went perfectly.
They happen because you were present enough to notice them.
What began as a fascination slowly became home.
Living here has changed the way I see adventure, relationships, and even celebrations.
Because Iceland has a way of reminding you that not everything needs to be controlled. Sometimes the weather changes. Sometimes the plan changes. Sometimes the most memorable part of the day is something you never could have planned at all.
What Iceland Has Taught Me
Living here has taught me that the most meaningful experiences rarely unfold exactly as expected.
They happen when you leave room for surprise.
When you adapt instead of resist. When you stop worrying about creating the perfect day and simply allow yourselves to experience it.
Every decision I make has one purpose:
Helping you spend less time thinking about your elopement and more time living it.
Whether that's choosing a quieter ceremony location, adjusting the timeline around the weather, or simply reminding you to pause for a moment and take it all in, every recommendation is made with your experience in mind.
Because years from now, I don't want you to remember how well the day was planned.
I want you to remember how it felt.
What It's Like To Work Together
My hope is that by the time your elopement day arrives, it feels like we're no longer strangers.
By then, we'll have talked about your vision, your priorities, and the kind of experience you want to create.
You'll know what to expect. You'll know you have someone looking out for you.
And when the day finally arrives, my job becomes beautifully simple:
To take care of the details so you can stay fully present with each other.
There will be quiet moments. Emotional moments. Moments where the weather does something completely unexpected. Moments where you're laughing so hard you forget there's even a camera in your direction.
And probably at least one moment where I'm enthusiastically reminding you how incredible you look.
Because while I take my work seriously, I don't believe your elopement day should feel like a production.
You don't need to perform.
You don't need to know what to do with your hands.
And you definitely don't need to spend the day worrying about whether everything is going according to plan.
You just need to show up, be yourselves, and trust that I've got the rest covered.
The best elopement days aren't the ones that feel perfect.

Why I built a small team
As McWhirter Elopements has grown, one thing has never changed:
The experience my couples have is always more important than the number of weddings I photograph.
That's why I've been intentional about building a very small team of photographers I trust completely.
Ondrej is based in South Iceland and has worked closely alongside me, learning not only how I photograph elopements, but how I care for the people who trust us with such an important chapter of their lives.
Because beautiful photographs are only part of what we create.

Looking after them feels like the least I can do.
