South Iceland Elopement Photographer & Experience Designer

Helping couples create intentional elopement experiences across South Iceland's glaciers, waterfalls, black sand beaches, and ice caves.

Most couples come to me with a feeling, not a plan.

Hi, I'm Lisa.

I live in a small village in South Iceland, where black sand beaches meet glacier-carved mountains, the wind has a personality of its own, and the weather occasionally laughs at even the best-laid plans.

This isn't just where I work.

It's home.

It's where I spend my days exploring back roads, keeping an eye on the forecast, and constantly being reminded that Iceland rarely does exactly what you expect—and that's part of what makes it so special.

Over the years, I've helped couples from around the world create wedding days that feel personal, meaningful, and true to who they are.

Not because I believe every elopement should look a certain way.

Quite the opposite.

Some couples want to hike to a remote viewpoint.

Others want a quiet ceremony beside a waterfall and a slow afternoon exploring together.

Some bring family.

Some don't.

Some have every detail planned.

Others arrive with little more than a feeling and a willingness to see where the day takes them.

The thing they all have in common?

They want a wedding day that feels like theirs.

Not rushed.

Not performative.

Not built around someone else's expectations.

Just an experience that reflects who they are and what matters most to them.

I didn't move to Iceland because it was convenient.

I moved here because of the way it made me feel.

The feeling of standing somewhere so vast and powerful that it reminds you how small you are—in the very best way.

What began as fascination eventually became home.

Living here has taught me something important:

Iceland is at its best when you stop trying to control it.

The most meaningful experiences rarely unfold exactly as planned.

They happen when you stay present.

When you adapt.

When you leave room for surprise.

And when you allow the landscape to become part of the story.

That's how I approach every elopement I help create.

Not as a photoshoot.

Not as a checklist.

But as an experience built around the two of you and the way you want your elopement day to feel.

Because when you choose to get married in Iceland, you're choosing more than a beautiful location.

You're choosing an experience that asks you to slow down, let go of expectations, and be fully present in the moment.

And helping couples create those experiences—in the place I now call home—is one of the greatest privileges of my life.

What It's Like To Work Together

My role isn't just to photograph your day.

It's to help you experience it.

To guide you through the planning, support you when things feel uncertain, and create the kind of environment where you can focus on each other instead of everything happening around you.

There will be quiet moments.

Emotional moments.

Moments where the weather does something completely unexpected.

Moments where you're laughing so hard you forget there's even a camera in your direction.

And probably at least one moment where I'm enthusiastically reminding you how incredible you look.

Because while I take my work seriously, I don't believe your wedding day should feel like a production.

You don't need to perform.

You don't need to know what to do with your hands.

And you definitely don't need to spend the day worrying about whether everything is going according to plan.

You just need to show up, be yourselves, and trust that I've got the rest covered.

The best elopement days aren't the ones that feel perfect.

They're the ones that feel real.

Meet Ondrej.

As McWhirter Elopements has grown, I've been intentional about building a small team of photographers I trust completely.

Ondrej is based in South Iceland and has worked closely alongside me, learning not only how I photograph elopements but how I care for the couples who trust us with such an important experience.

Because great photographs are only part of what we do.

The way a couple feels throughout the process matters just as much.

Ondrej shares the same calm approach, the same attention to detail, and the same commitment to helping couples feel comfortable, supported, and fully present throughout the day.

For certain experiences, you may have the option of working with him.

If that feels like the right fit, you can move forward knowing that the experience, guidance, and care you've come to expect from McWhirter Elopements remain exactly the same.

At the end of the day, my name is on every experience we create—and I wouldn't trust someone with your wedding day unless I trusted them completely.

The Importance of Leaving No Trace & Sustainability

The landscapes that make Iceland extraordinary are also incredibly fragile.

Many of the places I guide couples to have remained beautiful because people before us treated them with care and respect. I believe it's our responsibility to do the same.

That's why sustainability isn't an afterthought in the way I plan elopements—it's woven into every experience.

When recommending locations, building timelines, and guiding couples through Iceland, I always consider how we can minimise our impact while still creating something meaningful and unforgettable.

That means respecting marked paths, following local regulations, supporting trusted local businesses, and helping preserve the places that make Iceland so special in the first place.

My goal is simple:

To create extraordinary experiences today while helping ensure these landscapes remain just as extraordinary for the couples who visit tomorrow.

Because loving Iceland means helping protect it.
