I live in a tiny village in South Iceland where the black sand meets the mountains, the wind has a personality, and the weather occasionally laughs at your plans.
This isn’t just where I work.
This is home.
And for the past years, I’ve guided couples from all over the world into creating elopement days that feel deeply personal, wildly emotional, and completely their own.

What Iceland has taught me:
I know which waterfall feels sacred at sunrise.
Which glacier cave is safe — and which isn’t?
Which black sand beach becomes crowded at 3 pm, and which one stays empty all day?
Which roads close? Which winds are fine? Which winds are absolutely not fine.
And most importantly — I know how to adapt.
Some of the most extraordinary elopement days I’ve ever guided weren’t Plan A.
They were Plan B. Or C.
Because Iceland rewards flexibility — and I make sure every pivot still feels intentional, beautiful, and calm.

As McWhirter Elopements has grown into a luxury guided experience company, I’ve built a team I trust completely.
Ondrej is a proposal and elopement photographer based here in South Iceland, trained personally by me and deeply experienced in guiding couples through Iceland’s landscapes.
He brings the same calm and exciting presence. The same safety-first mindset. The same respect for the experience.
Many couples never even notice how much he’s doing — until they see the images and realise how fully their story was captured.

How this all started:
This is me, over 10 years ago, when I had just started my photography business back in Finland.
No guarantees. No master plan.
Just a pull toward this place I couldn’t ignore.
Somewhere along the way, I realised something:
I didn’t just want to photograph big and traditional weddings.
I wanted to help people create days that felt honest.
Days that weren’t built around expectations.
Days that felt like freedom.
That’s what McWhirter Elopements became.
