ICE CAVE
ELOPEMENT PACKAGE
Iceland ice cave and glacier elopements and weddings.
Imagine saying your vows inside a glowing blue ice cave…
A place that won’t exist next year — or maybe even next month.
If you’re dreaming of an elopement that feels surreal, cinematic, and once-in-a-lifetime, then an Iceland ice cave elopement might be exactly where you’re meant to say “I do.”
This is where adventure and intimacy meet.
Where nature becomes your chapel.
And where your love story is held by a landscape that’s constantly changing — just like the journey you’re choosing together.
Meet Your Ice Cave & Glacier Elopement Photographer: Lisa.
Hi, I’m Lisa — your Iceland-based elopement photographer, ice cave hype woman, glacier nerd, and the unofficial queen of “wait… let me show you something AMAZING.”
I’ve spent years photographing couples in some of the most mind-blowing places Iceland has to offer — but the ice caves?
Yeah… they’re my obsession.
Ice caves and glaciers are my happy place.
Some people meditate.
I put on crampons and walk into neon blue tunnels of ancient ice.
And I cannot wait to bring you there with me.
I know these landscapes deeply — the safest routes, the hidden pockets of blue light, which caves are stable, and which ones to avoid.
That’s why I only work with glacier guides who care as much about safety as they do about adventure. Together, we create an experience that feels thrilling, magical, and 100% safe.
Your job?
Show up ready for an unforgettable day.
My job?
Capture the story of your love in one of the rarest, most surreal places on Earth — while guiding you every step of the way.
“Is it safe to get married in an ice cave or on a glacier?”
This is always the first question couples ask — and honestly, I love that.
It means you care about having an incredible experience and staying safe while doing it.
Here’s the good news:
Yes — it can be very safe, comfortable, and absolutely breathtaking.
As long as you go with the right people.
I only work with a certified and professional glacier company: Katlatrack.
Think of glacier guides as the guardians of the ice realm.
They monitor conditions every single day, know exactly how the caves are shifting, and assess stability in real time.
There’s a huge difference between companies —
And after years of working alongside them, I found the best match with one of them.
When you book with me, you automatically get:
✔ A vetted, certified glacier guide
✔ Real-time cave condition updates
✔ Safe route planning
✔ Responsible cave selection
✔ An expert leading us every step of the way
Safety isn’t a cute extra.
It’s the foundation of your entire experience.
You don’t need to be a mountaineer — I promise.
Most ice cave locations I work in require a light, guided walk of 15–30 minutes.
Nothing steep, nothing technical.
If you can comfortably walk on uneven ground, a glacier elopement is totally doable.
You’ll be equipped with:
✔ Crampons
✔ Safety helmets
✔ Headlamps
✔ Harnesses (if needed)
✔ Expert guidance the entire time
Comfort comes first, always
If at any point something feels too cold, too slippery, or too much — we stop.
Your experience should feel safe, grounded, and joyful.
This isn’t a survival challenge.
It’s your elopement day.
Will we be freezing in our wedding clothes?
A totally fair question — and the answer is: not if we do it right.
And we do do it right.
Here’s exactly how we keep you warm, comfortable, and ready to enjoy every moment inside the ice cave or out on the glacier.
Outerwear = Aesthetic
Good news: outerwear actually looks AMAZING in glacier elopement photos.
Think: capes, cosy shawls, Icelandic sweaters, embroidered coats
You’ll be warm, and your photos will look straight out of a fantasy film.
The Right Footwear Makes the Biggest Difference
For ice cave + glacier elopements, you’ll want:
✔ Winter hiking boots
✔ Wool socks
✔ Waterproofing (essential!)
Crampons attach directly to your boots — your glacier guide will fit them for you.
Built-in Warm-Up Breaks
We take warm-up breaks whenever needed — and I always bring:
✔ Hand warmers
✔ A thermos of hot chocolate, coffee, or tea
✔ Extra gloves if needed
✔ A mini “warm-up game plan” depending on the weather
Cold should never steal the magic of your day.
And I won’t let it.
The Cave Itself Is Often Warmer Than Outside
Surprising but true: Once we step inside the ice cave, the wind disappears.
It’s sheltered, still, calm — and often more comfortable than the outside weather.
This is one of the reasons ice caves make winter elopements so beautiful.
What if we travel all that way and the weather ruins everything?
Ah yes — the question every single couple has, and the question Iceland LOVES to tempt you with.
Here’s the truth:
Iceland’s weather is dramatic, unpredictable, and has serious main-character energy.
Sun one minute, sideways rain the next, and occasionally a full “is this Narnia?” snow moment.
But here’s the more important truth:
Your day is not ruined by the weather.
Because we don’t “wing it” here — we plan for Iceland the way Iceland actually behaves.
We always have a Plan A… and a B, C, and D.
From the moment we start planning, I build flexibility into your day:
✔ Multiple backup locations
✔ Indoor/sheltered possibilities
✔ Alternative timelines
✔ Alternative routes
✔ Weather-specific strategies
✔ Light-specific adjustments
These aren’t “lesser” options — every backup is chosen because it’s equally gorgeous, equally meaningful, and equally photogenic.
We don’t downgrade.
We pivot with intention.
I stay in direct contact with your glacier team
Ice caves + glaciers are living, changing worlds.
Conditions can shift daily.
That’s why I stay in touch with your glacier guide team the week and days leading up to your elopement — and often the day of — so we always know:
✔ Which caves are open
✔ Which are safest
✔ How strong the winds are
✔ Whether a storm system is moving in
✔ The best time to visit the glacier
If the cave changes shape (it will), or light hits differently (it does), or the entrance shifts (it happens), we adapt quickly and safely.
I strongly recommend adding a weather buffer day.
When couples fly all the way to Iceland, I encourage them to keep a flexible day in their itinerary.
This allows us to:
✔ Shift your elopement by 24–48 hours
✔ Avoid dangerous wind and snowstorms
✔ Choose the safest and most beautiful conditions
This buffer day alone has saved so many couples from stress.
You will always know what’s happening — no surprises
You will NOT be left guessing.
I send updates, recommendations, timelines, and weather notes so you always feel informed and supported.
Most couples tell me:
“Honestly, the weather ended up making the day even more magical.”
And it’s true — Iceland has a way of adding drama in the best possible way.
Will your elopement be ruined?
Absolutely not.
We’ll use experience, local knowledge, safety partners, and backup plans to create a day that feels just as meaningful, breathtaking, and unforgettable — no matter what the skies decide to do.
Where to have an ice cave elopement:
Iceland’s ice caves shift, melt, reform, collapse, and reappear every season — which is exactly what makes eloping in one feel so surreal and extraordinary.
Right now, the most magical and accessible place for your elopement is:
The Katla Ice Cave
Located just outside Vík (my tiny 700-person village!), the Katla ice caves are powerful, dramatic, and constantly changing. No two days inside them ever look the same — which means your elopement will be truly one-of-a-kind.
Here’s what makes Katla perfect for elopements:
✔ Year-round access
Unlike many glacier caves that only exist in winter, Katla offers cave access even in autumn, spring and summer.
✔ Privacy for your ceremony
Because we partner with local guides and only use a private tour, we can time your experience to avoid crowds and create the privacy needed for an intimate vow exchange.
✔ Easy to pair with other locations
Before or after the cave, you can also explore: black sand beaches, waterfalls, mountains, and volcanic landscapes. All within a short drive.
Duration: About 3 Hours of Adventure
Your ice cave experience includes:
Super jeep transport to the glacier
Safety briefing
Easy glacier walk
Exploring the cave
Your ceremony
Portraits inside and outside the cave
Private ice cave tour for your elopement day:
If you want the ice cave all to yourselves with no one else wandering into your ceremony or portraits, a private tour is the way to go — and honestly, it’s one of the best decisions adventurous couples make.
What Your Private Tour Includes
✔ Exclusive access — it’s just you, me, and your glacier guide
✔ Super jeep transfer to the glacier
✔ Safety helmets, crampons, and gear
✔ 3 hours of adventure (transport + cave time)
✔ Time for: Your ceremony, exploring multiple cave rooms, portraits inside and on the glacier
✔ Peace, privacy, and next-level magic
Katlatrack — one of the most experienced and safety-forward companies in Iceland — provides the tour.
Why Couples Love Choosing a Private Tour
1. Unmatched Privacy. Your vows echoing softly inside a blue ice chamber, with no one around?
That feeling is priceless.
2. The Best Possible Photos. Without crowds, we can explore more cave rooms, chase better light, and take our time creating dreamy, cinematic images.
3. More Authentic Experience. You’re not “tourists” inside a cave — you’re two humans in love experiencing one of nature’s rarest wonders together.
USD 1500
This is added to your main elopement package.
And yes — it’s worth every single penny for couples who want a once-in-a-lifetime, “just us” moment,
Do you have questions about ice caves and glacier elopements? We have the answers.
-
Ice caves change constantly — some disappear, some reform, some shift, and some reveal brand-new rooms the week before your elopement.
But don’t worry:
I stay in direct contact with your glacier guide team, who monitor cave conditions daily.
If the cave’s shape or accessibility changes, we adapt quickly and safely.
You’ll always have a beautiful and stable cave option available. -
Great question — and one I love.
No, your elopement does not harm the glacier.
We follow strict Leave No Trace principles and work only with responsible glacier guides who protect the land and minimise environmental impact.
The caves naturally melt and reform every year — your presence doesn’t speed that up. -
Yes!
I work primarily with the local Vik glacier team, who:
✔ Know the glacier intimately
✔ Prioritize safety
✔ Protect the environment
✔ Support the local communityYou’re choosing an experience that benefits local guides, local families, and local tourism — not mass tour operations.
-
