Iceland Vow Renewal
You've already said yes once. This time, you get to do it with everything you've learned about each other since.
Renewing your vows in Iceland doesn't need to look like another wedding.
It can be simple. It can involve hiking somewhere wonderfully quiet. You can build a whole day around it, or give the ceremony an hour that belongs completely to the two of you.
My role is to help you work out what feels right first, then design the Iceland part around that.
From choosing a place that suits the amount of privacy and adventure you want, to planning around Iceland's weather and helping the experience flow naturally, I'll take care of the pieces that shouldn't be taking up space in your head.
You bring the years you've shared. We'll plan what you want to say to each other next.
Renew Your Vows in Iceland, Your Way
There isn't one right way to renew your vows.
For some couples, it's ten quiet minutes together, reading words they've written privately and opening a bottle of champagne afterwards.
For others, it's an anniversary they want to build a little more around. A slow morning together. A ceremony somewhere meaningful. Good food afterwards. Maybe a walk somewhere beautiful because that's genuinely how they'd choose to spend the day.
Your family can be part of it, too. Your children might stand beside you, read something during the ceremony or simply get to witness a moment they weren't there for the first time around. And if you want the renewal itself to feel more ceremonial, we can explore that as well, including an Ásatrú vow renewal ceremony led by an Icelandic officiant.
You don't need to arrive knowing exactly what it should look like.
We'll start with why you've chosen to renew your vows, what this anniversary means to you, and how you actually want to spend your time together.
From there, we can decide how much of Iceland belongs in the experience.
Maybe that's a place requiring a little adventure to reach. Maybe it's somewhere quiet with very little walking. Maybe the right choice is staying close to where you're already travelling and giving yourselves more time to simply be there.
The location comes after we understand the two of you.
Because after however many years you've already spent figuring out life together, your vow renewal doesn't need to follow somebody else's idea of what an anniversary in Iceland is supposed to look like.
Maybe it's the two of you exchanging new vows somewhere quiet after ten years of marriage. Maybe your children are there this time. Maybe you're celebrating twenty years together with a ceremony that feels more like who you are now than the wedding you planned all those years ago.
What Does an Iceland Vow Renewal Look Like?
There is no set format you need to follow.
You might start the morning slowly, have breakfast together and get ready without needing to be anywhere at a particular minute. Later, you could head somewhere quiet to exchange your vows, stay for a while afterwards and then go for dinner.
Or your renewal might be part of a bigger adventure. You could hike somewhere away from the road, spend time exploring the Highlands, walk onto a glacier with a professional guide, or choose a place where reaching the ceremony itself becomes part of the experience.
It doesn't need to take the whole day, either.
Sometimes an hour in the right place is enough. Especially if what matters most is having a private ceremony, saying what you've come to Iceland to say to each other, and then continuing your anniversary exactly as you planned.
That's one of the lovely things about a vow renewal.
There isn't a wedding-day rulebook sitting in the background telling you what should happen next. We can give the ceremony enough space to matter without adding things simply to make the experience feel bigger.
And if Iceland changes the plan, we'll work with that too. A different location, a later ceremony or a change in weather doesn't change why you're there.
The goal isn't to fit as much Iceland as possible around your vows.
It's to give the two of you time to stop for a moment, look at the life you've already built together, and choose each other again.
Your Vow Renewal Should Feel Like You
By the time you decide to renew your vows, you already know quite a lot about being married to each other. You know whether your perfect day starts slowly with coffee or with hiking boots by the door. You know who wants to see what is around the next corner and who would happily stay in the same beautiful place for an hour.
Those little things matter when I start planning with you.
Maybe privacy matters more than anything else. Maybe you've spent twenty years travelling together and want a little adventure. Maybe life has been particularly busy, and what sounds wonderful is simply having nowhere else you need to be.
Those answers help us make much better decisions than starting with a list of Iceland locations.
They tell us whether a long drive is worth it. Whether hiking adds something to the experience or simply takes time away from what matters. Whether you need somewhere completely quiet, or would rather choose easy access so family can join you.
From there, I'll begin shaping the practical pieces around you. We'll look at locations that genuinely fit, how the season affects them, what privacy realistically looks like, and what we need to consider around weather and access.
You won't need to turn your anniversary into another planning project.
I'll help narrow the choices and explain the trade-offs, so the decisions you're making together are the ones that actually matter.
Choosing Where to Renew Your Vows in Iceland
Iceland gives you plenty of choices. The harder part is working out which one actually belongs in your vow renewal.
A waterfall might sound perfect until we talk about how much privacy you want. A remote mountain location might feel exactly right, but require more driving or walking than you want on your anniversary. A black sand beach can give you space to wander together, while a glacier experience needs professional guiding and a little more planning behind the scenes.
None of those choices is automatically better than another.
When I suggest locations for your Iceland vow renewal, I'll look at what you have told me first: how adventurous you want to be, how much time we have, whether anyone is joining you, how important privacy is, and how you want the ceremony itself to feel.
Then we add Iceland to the conversation.
South Iceland
South Iceland works particularly well when you want variety without spending most of your vow renewal driving between places.
There are waterfalls, black sand landscapes, mountains and quieter areas away from the most obvious stops. Being based in Vík also means I can help you think beyond simply choosing whichever South Coast location appears most often when you search online.
If privacy matters, timing and the exact location become especially important here.
THE HIGHLANDS
If getting somewhere is part of the fun for you, the Highlands can give your vow renewal a completely different rhythm.
This can mean more time on the road, rougher access and weather having a bigger say in what is possible. In return, the journey itself becomes part of the day rather than simply transportation between photographs.
For the right couple, that trade-off is absolutely worth it.
Southeast iceland
If your travels are taking you farther east, Southeast Iceland opens up another set of possibilities around glaciers, lagoons, mountains and wide coastal landscapes.
It can work especially well when your vow renewal is part of a longer Iceland trip and you would rather build the experience around where you're already going than spend your anniversary chasing locations across the country..
Glaciers and ice caves
A glacier or ice cave can work beautifully when you want your anniversary to include something you genuinely experience together, rather than simply somewhere to stand for your vows.
These locations come with additional considerations around conditions, equipment and access, and you'll need the appropriate professional guide where required.
The ice also changes. What you see in somebody else's photographs isn't something we can promise will exist in exactly the same form when you arrive.
That's part of working with a living landscape.
An Ásatrú vow renewal ceremony
If you want your vow renewal to feel more ceremonial, an Ásatrú-inspired renewal can be one of the options we explore together. Rather than simply arriving somewhere beautiful, reading your vows and leaving, having an officiant gives the ceremony a little more structure and creates space around the reason you've come to Iceland in the first place.
For couples who choose this option, I can help coordinate an Icelandic Ásatrú officiant as part of the experience.
You can still write your own vows and make the renewal personal to your relationship. We'll talk about what you want the ceremony to mean to you and how you want it to fit into the rest of your anniversary, rather than treating it as something separate from the day.
The location matters here too, but not because we need the most dramatic backdrop we can find.
We need somewhere that gives the ceremony enough time and space, works with the people joining you, and is realistic for the conditions we might have that day.
If weather means the original plan needs to change, we'll already have thought about what we're protecting: the ceremony and the experience around it, rather than one exact patch of Iceland.
And if an Ásatrú ceremony isn't for you, that's completely fine.
Your vow renewal in Iceland can be as simple as exchanging your own words privately. You don't need an officiant or an elaborate ceremony for the moment to matter.
What's Included in Your Iceland Vow Renewal
-

Location guidance built around you.
I'll narrow down locations based on privacy, accessibility, season, weather and the amount of adventure you actually want, rather than sending you a long list and asking you to choose.
-

A simple plan for how everything fits together
We'll work out where to meet, when to go, how much time we need and what makes sense before and after the ceremony.
-

Weather and backup thinking.
I'll keep an eye on conditions and we'll have alternatives when Iceland decides the original idea isn't the best one that day.
-

Ceremony guidance.
Whether you're exchanging vows privately or including an officiant, I'll help make sure the ceremony has enough space within the experience rather than feeling squeezed between locations.
-

Photography throughout the experience.
I'll document what happens without turning the renewal into a long photoshoot. There will be guidance when you need it and space to simply be together when you don't.
-

Practical local guidance
Clothing, access, driving considerations and the small things that are much easier to know before you arrive in Iceland.
Iceland Vow Renewal Experiences
Your vow renewal can be an hour set aside just for the two of you, or it can become one of the experiences you remember most from your time in Iceland.
The difference isn't how meaningful the renewal is.
It's simply how much you want to build around it.
The Promise
$2,500
For couples who want to keep things simple and give the vow renewal itself the attention.
We'll choose a location that fits the two of you, plan around the conditions and give you enough time to arrive, exchange your vows and enjoy the moment without turning it into an entire wedding day.
Your experience includes personal planning, location recommendations, ceremony guidance, weather monitoring and photography, followed by your fully edited online gallery and slideshow.
This can also be a lovely fit if your vow renewal is one meaningful part of a longer anniversary trip through Iceland.
Best for: A simple, private vow renewal with thoughtful planning behind it.
The Journey
$3,900
For couples who want the vow renewal to become a bigger part of their Iceland experience.
With more time together, we can include multiple locations or allow the day to unfold at a slower pace. Maybe the ceremony happens somewhere quiet before you continue exploring. Maybe reaching the place you've chosen is part of the adventure.
The additional time also gives us more flexibility around Iceland's weather and light rather than asking one short window to do all the work.
The Journey includes more comprehensive planning, location and experience design, extended photography coverage, weather strategy and recommendations for the other pieces we may need along the way.
Best for: Couples who want the ceremony and exploring Iceland to belong to the same experience.
The Legacy
$5,900
For the anniversary that deserves a day of its own.
The Legacy gives us the space to design a fuller Iceland experience around your vow renewal, with the ceremony as its anchor rather than something we squeeze into the itinerary.
That could mean travelling farther, spending more time somewhere remote, including several parts of Iceland that genuinely matter to the experience, or simply allowing yourselves a day without needing to rush on to whatever comes next.
We'll build the flow together, with comprehensive planning, a personalised itinerary, greater flexibility around Iceland's conditions and photography throughout the experience.
Best for: Couples who want their vow renewal to become one of the main experiences of their Iceland trip.
Planning your vow renewal in Iceland
Once we know what you want your vow renewal to feel like, the practical decisions become much easier.
You don't need to plan an entire wedding again. But Iceland does ask us to think about a few things differently.
Planning Around Iceland's Weather
Your vow renewal doesn't need perfect weather to work. It does need a plan that isn't dependent on one exact forecast.
I'll monitor the conditions that matter to us, including wind, precipitation, road access and what is happening at the locations we're considering. If something needs to change, we'll make that decision based on the experience we're trying to protect rather than forcing the original plan simply because it was Plan A. Sometimes that means adjusting the time. Sometimes we choose somewhere else.
Privacy
If exchanging your vows without an audience matters to you, tell me early. Privacy in Iceland isn't something I promise simply by choosing a location that looks empty in photographs.
It can depend on the season, time of day, weather, accessibility and how willing you are to walk a little farther or choose somewhere less obvious. We'll decide how important privacy is to you and build around it accordingly.
What to Wear
You don't need to dress like you're going hiking simply because you're renewing your vows in Iceland. Wear something that makes the occasion feel like an occasion if that's important to you.
Then we'll make the practical side work around it. That might mean warm layers underneath, hiking boots for getting to the ceremony and changing footwear once we're there, waterproof layers nearby, or simply accepting that Icelandic wind may have opinions about your hair.
I'll help you prepare for the conditions without making practicality the entire personality of your anniversary.
Bringing Your Family
Your vow renewal doesn't have to be just the two of you. Children, family or a small number of people who have been part of your marriage can absolutely be included.
If guests are joining us, we'll factor them into the location from the beginning. Walking distance, terrain, transportation, weather exposure, and somewhere to warm up afterwards suddenly matter much more.
You shouldn't spend your vow renewal managing everyone else's logistics. We'll think about those things beforehand.
Frequently Asked Questions About Renewing Your Vows in Iceland
-
A vow renewal is generally ceremonial rather than a new legal marriage. If you're already legally married, you don't need to go through the Icelandic marriage process again simply to renew your vows. That also gives you a lot of freedom to make the ceremony personal to the two of you.
-
No. You can exchange your vows privately with just the two of you.
If you would like something more ceremonial, we can also explore including an officiant. An Ásatrú vow renewal ceremony is one of the options available through my vow renewal experiences.
-
Yes. If an Ásatrú ceremony feels meaningful to you, I can help coordinate your vow renewal with an Icelandic Ásatrú officiant.
We'll talk through what the ceremony involves and how it can fit into the experience you're planning before you decide whether it's right for you.
-
Wear something that feels like you and makes the occasion feel special.
I'll help with the Iceland part: appropriate layers, footwear, weather protection and anything specific to the location or season we've chosen.
You can absolutely dress up without pretending Iceland isn't Iceland.
-
Absolutely.
Some couples want the renewal to belong completely to the two of them. Others want their children or a few people who have been part of their marriage standing beside them.
If guests are coming, we'll take that into account when choosing the location and planning access, transportation and the flow of the ceremony.
-
Yes, we'll build around it rather than asking you to choose a supposedly perfect Iceland month.
We'll look at what that season realistically gives us, including daylight, access and likely conditions, and design the experience accordingly.
-
That depends much more on the experience you want than on a list of the most photographed places.
Your vow renewal could happen beside a waterfall, on a black sand landscape, in the Highlands, near a glacier or somewhere much quieter that makes sense for the two of you.
I'll help narrow the possibilities based on privacy, season, access, weather, guests and how much adventure you want.
-
Yes. My role isn't limited to arriving once the ceremony has already been planned.
I'll help you choose a location that fits the two of you, think through privacy and weather, plan the flow of the experience and coordinate the pieces included in your collection.
Then, when you're actually there, you can concentrate on the reason you came.
