A Private Iceland Elopement, Designed Around You

Quiet Iceland

For couples who want Iceland. Just not everyone else.

Maybe you don't want strangers standing nearby while you read your vows. Maybe the thought of being photographed with an audience makes you want to disappear.

Or maybe you simply want your elopement day to feel like something the two of you are living together, rather than something you're performing in front of everyone else.

Quiet Iceland is an approach to designing your elopement where privacy isn't something we hope to find when we arrive.

We think about it from the beginning.

Where you go. When you go. How you get there. How long you stay. How much you try to fit into the day. And, sometimes, which famous places we deliberately don't visit at all.

The goal isn't necessarily to spend your entire wedding day without seeing another human being.

It's to create enough space that, for a while, you forget anyone else exists.

What Does a Quiet Iceland Elopement Actually Feel Like?

It might begin slowly. No alarm at an unreasonable hour unless there's a very good reason for one. Coffee together. Getting ready somewhere you actually enjoy being. No pressure to rush because six locations are waiting for us.

Then we go.

Perhaps we're driving toward a valley most visitors pass without knowing what's beyond it. Maybe we're heading into the Highlands, where simply getting there becomes part of the experience. Maybe you've chosen somewhere surprisingly close to Vík, but we've timed it around the rhythms I've learned from actually living here. Or perhaps there is one famous Icelandic landscape you absolutely love.

We don't automatically remove it from the plan just because other people know about it.

We figure out when it feels different.

Your ceremony happens somewhere you can hear each other. After your vows, nobody immediately announces that it's time for the next photographs.

You stay. You hug. You laugh. You have the slightly surreal we're actually married conversation.

Maybe we pour coffee from a thermos. Maybe you sit down for a while. Maybe Iceland does something completely unexpected, and we change the plan.

There is somewhere else we could go next. But nobody is rushing you there.

That's Quiet Iceland.

Not an empty itinerary. An intentionally spacious one.

Privacy Isn't About Finding a Secret Waterfall

I know how tempting the idea of a secret Iceland location can be.

But that's not really how I think about privacy.

A beautiful place doesn't remain private simply because someone hasn't put its name on Instagram yet.

Conditions change. Roads change. Visitor patterns change. Access changes. And sometimes the place that's wonderfully quiet one year isn't quiet anymore the next.

So instead of building your elopement around a promise that nobody else knows where we're going, I look at the bigger picture.

Privacy can come from timing. A famous waterfall can feel completely different once tour buses have left.

Privacy can come from distance. Sometimes going farther opens up an entirely different Iceland.

Privacy can come from effort. A walk, hike, or 4×4 journey naturally changes how many people continue with us.

Privacy can come from choosing differently. The place everyone drives past may suit you better than the place everyone has saved on Pinterest.

And sometimes privacy comes from doing something surprisingly simple:

Staying longer in fewer places.

Because when we stop designing your elopement around collecting locations, we gain much more freedom to design it around you.

Sometimes Quiet Iceland Takes Us Farther

Privacy doesn't always mean waking up earlier.

Sometimes it means going somewhere most visitors simply don't have the time, vehicle or inclination to reach.

That's where Iceland becomes particularly interesting.

The Highlands can give us enormous landscapes, mountain roads, volcanic valleys, geothermal areas and places where the journey itself becomes part of your wedding experience.

Elsewhere, reaching the right location might mean hiking. Taking a suitable 4×4. Working with a private driver. Joining a specialist guide. Or building enough time into the day that we don't have to choose places simply because they're convenient.

I never want remoteness for the sake of being able to say we went somewhere remote.

The effort has to give something back to your experience.

If walking for an hour gets us somewhere that gives you the solitude you've been dreaming about, wonderful. If you're going to be miserable for every minute of that hike, I'll find us another answer.

Quiet Iceland isn't about proving how adventurous you are.

It's about finding the version of Iceland where you feel most like yourselves.

What Could Your Quiet Iceland Day Look Like?

There isn't a Quiet Iceland itinerary. That's rather the point.

We don't begin by deciding how many places you can fit into the day.

We begin with what you want the day to feel like.

Then I design the logistics around that.

For one couple, it could mean an intimate ceremony close to Vík at a carefully chosen time, followed by a slow afternoon exploring South Iceland.

For another, it could mean putting everything into a private driver with a jeep and heading into the Highlands.

And another might decide that three hours beside one extraordinary landscape sounds infinitely better than visiting five.

More Iceland Doesn't Necessarily Mean a Better Elopement

This is something I care about quite deeply. I don't measure a successful Iceland elopement by how many locations we managed to visit.

You could technically spend your wedding day racing between waterfall after waterfall, changing landscapes every hour and coming home with photographs from half of South Iceland.

But you also have to live that day.

Driving takes time. Walking takes time. Getting warm takes time. Eating takes time. Weather changes things.

And sometimes you're standing somewhere incredible, having one of the best moments of the day, and the last thing I want to say is:

We need to go.

Privacy and presence often require the same thing:

Space.

Space to stay. Space to change our minds. Space to laugh. Space for Iceland to surprise us. Space to be married instead of constantly moving toward the next photograph.

I'd rather design four hours you'll remember than twelve stops you'll struggle to distinguish twenty years from now.

How we desing quiet Iceland

private wedding ceremony in Iceland away from busy tourist locations

There isn't one trick I use to create privacy.

It's a collection of small decisions.

I look at the season you're visiting.

  • Daylight.

  • Typical visitor patterns.

  • Tour-bus rhythms.

  • Driving times.

  • Walking times.

  • Road access.

  • How exposed a ceremony location feels.

  • How comfortable you are around other people.

  • Weather.

  • Backup possibilities.

  • And whether the effort required to reach somewhere actually makes sense for the two of you.

Then we build the day. Sometimes that means going early. Sometimes surprisingly late. Sometimes farther. Sometimes nowhere particularly far at all.

And because Iceland will always remain Iceland, I never promise that another human being won't appear.

What I can promise is that privacy will be part of the planning rather than something we leave to luck.

Your ceremony doesn’t need an audience

For some couples, this is the most important part of all.

Your vows might be funny. Messy. Very personal.

Maybe you'll cry. Maybe you'll completely lose your place halfway through. Maybe one of you will make the other laugh at exactly the wrong moment.

Those things become much easier to experience when you're not wondering who is standing behind you with a phone.

So when privacy matters to you, your ceremony gets special consideration.

The most visually impressive location isn't automatically the right ceremony location.

  • I care about whether you can hear each other.

  • Whether you feel exposed.

  • Whether people are likely to pass through.

  • Whether you have somewhere comfortable to stand.

  • And whether, when you look at each other, you're actually thinking about each other.

Not the people watching.

And Photography Becomes Quieter Too

Privacy changes more than your ceremony.

It changes the photographs.

When you're not waiting for strangers to move out of the background, we don't have to keep interrupting what you're doing.

When you don't feel watched, your body language changes. You stop wondering where to put your hands.

Conversations continue. Jokes happen. You wander. You forget about me occasionally.

And that's when photographs begin to contain something much more valuable than an empty landscape.

They contain you.

Is Quite Iceland right for us?

Probably, if you're reading this thinking:

Yes. This is what we've been trying to explain.

You might love Quiet Iceland if you want:

Your elopement to feel intimate rather than performative

If privacy matters more to you than ticking off famous landmarks

If you're willing to adjust timing

Travel farther or walk a little when the experience is worth it

You care about how your elopement feels while you're living it.

If you simply want enough breathing room to enjoy where you are.

How do we book Quiet Iceland?

Quiet Iceland isn't another elopement package. It's one of the ways I can design your day around what matters most to you.

Once I understand the kind of privacy you're looking for, how adventurous you want to be, the season you're visiting and what you'd actually like to experience together, I'll help you choose the McWhirter Elopement Experience that gives us enough space to create it.

For a beautifully simple experience close to Vík, that may be Just Us.

For a day with more room to explore, it could be Fire & Ice.

If privacy requires going farther, having private transportation or giving ourselves considerably more freedom, The Wild Story may make much more sense.

And if what you're imagining is a completely bespoke journey through Iceland, that's where Northern Passage begins.

You don't need to figure out which one you need before contacting me.

That's part of my job.

Frequently Asked Questions

This Is Where Your Story Begins

Most couples don't arrive here with a complete plan. They haven't chosen every location. They don't know which season feels right. They aren't sure how many hours they'll need.

What they do know is how they want their day to feel.

Maybe you've realised a traditional wedding doesn't quite fit. Maybe you've spent evenings scrolling through Iceland photos, trying to picture yourselves there. Maybe you simply know you want a day that feels more intentional.

More meaningful. More like you.

If that's where you are, you're exactly where many of my couples begin. And that's more than enough.

From here, we'll begin discovering what your experience could become.

We'll talk about your ideas. Your priorities. The way you naturally spend time together. The landscapes that feel like you. And all the little details that turn an idea into an experience.

I'll guide you through Iceland. You simply get to focus on each other.

Here's What Happens Next

1.) Tell me about yourselves. These questions aren't about getting the "right" answers. They're simply the first step in helping me understand who you are and the kind of experience you're dreaming about

2.) P.S. If you don't hear back within 48 hours, have a quick peek in your spam folder. Patrick the Puffin takes full responsibility. He's wonderful with moral support. Less so with email administration.

3.) I'll Reach Out Personally. I'll read through everything you've shared, reply personally, and start thinking about the kind of experience that might suit you best.

4.) We'll Explore What's Possible. There's no pressure to have everything figured out. Most couples don't. This is simply a chance to explore ideas, ask questions, and leave with more clarity than you had before. That's all.

You don't need a detailed itinerary. You don't need to know exactly what you want.

You simply need a feeling that Iceland might be the place to begin your next chapter <3
