Not every Iceland elopement needs a full-day adventure, a long list of locations or an itinerary filled with activities.
Sometimes, you just want to stand together somewhere meaningful, exchange your vows and have a few photographs to remember it.
That's exactly what Hanna and Wyatt chose.
Just the Two of Them at Skógafoss
Hanna and Wyatt kept their elopement wonderfully simple. They came to Skógafoss waterfall in South Iceland to exchange their vows, with no guests and no other locations planned for their experience.
There wasn't a full day of activities waiting for them afterwards. They didn't need to fit several waterfalls, beaches and mountain viewpoints into a few hours.
Their plan was to exchange their vows and spend a little time having photographs taken together. And that was enough.
Exchanging Private Vows in Iceland
There's something lovely about choosing to keep your vows between the two of you. You don't need an audience, an elaborate ceremony or a long schedule to make the moment important.
For Hanna and Wyatt, their vow exchange was the centre of their experience. Skógafoss provided the setting, but the reason they were there was much simpler: to make promises to each other.
Afterwards, we took some photographs together at the waterfall. No rushing to the next location. No complicated schedule to keep up with. Just a short, meaningful part of their time in Iceland that belonged to them.
Can You Have a Simple Vow Exchange in Iceland?
Absolutely.
One of the things I love about helping couples plan elopements in Iceland is that there's no single way the experience needs to look. Some couples want to spend two days exploring remote landscapes. Others dream of hiking somewhere quiet, visiting an ice cave or including their closest family members. And some couples simply want to exchange vows and have a few photographs taken.
If that's what feels right for you, we can build the experience around it.
The important part is understanding what kind of setting you're comfortable with. Skógafoss is a popular waterfall, so a vow exchange there doesn't automatically mean you'll have the location to yourselves. If complete privacy is essential, we can consider quieter locations or a different timing strategy.
We can also talk about whether you're planning a symbolic vow exchange or a legally recognised wedding ceremony, as those involve different arrangements.
You don't need to turn a simple experience into something more complicated just because you're getting married in Iceland.
Planning Your Own Iceland Vow Exchange
If you're imagining something similar to Hanna and Wyatt's day, I'd love to help you figure out what would suit the two of you. Maybe it's a waterfall, a quiet stretch of black sand beach or somewhere that requires a little walk away from the busier locations.
We'll start with what matters to you and build from there.
